Our impact
Cultural significance
At Nyaal Banyul, we welcome you to the waterfront of Wadawurrung land, where the tradition of knowledge-sharing and gathering spans thousands of generations.
Nyaal Banyul is a pioneering achievement in Australia, standing as the first convention centre intricately designed in partnership with the Traditional Owners from its inception. This unprecedented collaboration with the Wadawurrung People is woven into every element of Nyaal Banyul, from its architectural design to its cultural narrative, ensuring that the venue not only respects but celebrates the rich heritage of the land it calls home.
Our name, meaning ‘Open your eyes to the hills,’ was generously gifted by the Wadawurrung People, inviting all who visit to experience the transformative power of discovery and connection. Here, in Geelong’s newest venue, you are welcome to share new perspectives and be part of something truly special.
Committed to sustainability
Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of Nyaal Banyul, guiding every element of our venue and the events we create.
We aspire to be a climate-positive venue, setting the standard as one of the healthiest convention centres in the Southern Hemisphere. With solar panels and renewable energy at our core, we're aiming for a 5-star Green Star and Carbon Neutral rating—honouring the land and nurturing a future where nature and innovation thrive together.
